Welcome

Thank you for visiting the Toll 49 project website. The Toll 49 project has been in the works for over 30 years, with the original plans calling for an expressway to be built around Tyler, Texas. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) began construction of Segment 1 in 2003 but soon determined that funds to complete the 26.5 mile expressway would not be available until 2033. In response, Smith and Gregg Counties formed the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NET RMA). The NET RMA chose to build the project as a toll way and to allow early delivery of the project.

The Toll 49 project is overseen by the NET RMA, which is an independent governmental agency established in October of 2004.  The NET RMA is governed by a Board of Directors from 12 counties, including Bowie, Cass, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Panola, Rusk, Smith, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood.
